Noctilucant I've been a fan of Todd's work since his Uvall days in the early 00's. A Somber Wind feels like a culmination of all those previous projects of his, and at least in my opinion, it's one of the better atmospheric black metal records of the last decade.

Named after the “dire wolf” indigenous to North America over 100,000 years ago, CANIS DIRUS base their epic songs around their disdain for humanity who have been perpetually encroaching on natures beauty. The last burning embers of a dying autumnal twilight, the beckoning shrieks of oncoming night, the blanket of everlasting darkness: All encapsulated in the foreboding atmosphere of “A Somber Wind from a Distant Shore”.

La mine, c'est le lieu qui met le plus en exergue les disparités sociales : d'un côté ils sont des milliers à descendre dans les entrailles de la terre, de l'autre une poignée s'élève socialement ; d'un côté ils meurent par centaines sous l'effet des coups de grisou, de l'autre ils consolident leurs richesses. Cette dualité, elle traverse aussi Kentucky : d'un côté le black metal atmosphérique asphyxiant, de l'autre l'americana et le folklore héroïque. Panopticon est dans la lutte permanente !
